Weekly led walks round Thirsk (and also in the other main towns of Hambleton District). Anyone can join, but we especially welcome the over 50s, those with health risks such as heart disease/high blood pressure, people with inactive lifestyles, people recovering from health problems and needing simple exercise, people who think they would be too slow to join a normal walking group and those who would just like some company for walking. Walks are usually about an hour with half hour starter walks available and are on good level footpaths around the towns and on surrounding field paths when weather conditions allow. We move at a pace brisk enough for individuals to feel an increased heart rate and faster breathing. We never leave anyone behind and if you cannot walk and talk we say you are walking too fast. Thirsk walks start at 10.30am on a Wednesday, often with refreshments afterwards. See the Walking for Health website or our leaflet to find out more details.

A walking group set up to provide regular walks of about five miles. We target people who can walk but don't, either because they are worried about getting lost, they are not sure it is safe, or they just want somebody to walk with and talk to. Our walks may start in town, but are more likely to start in one of the local villages or at a country pub or tea shop. Wherever possible we aim to plan walks based on bus stops to accommodate those people who do not drive, but even more important is we plan walks to end at a tea shop or pub, where we can sit around and chat for half an hour before heading for home.
